How to steady in an emotional storm: Dropping Anchor

This short video explains an exercise and metaphor called ‘Dropping Anchor’ that enables us to manage difficult thoughts, emotions, sensations and urges.  It will support and hold you steady so that you don’t get swept away by these intense human experiences, allowing time for the storm to pass without calamity.

This exercise brings awareness to what is disrupting you, and gives you some space and perspective. It focuses your attention on the task at hand and helps you develop self-regulation by identifying and managing emotions. It also is helpful in disrupting patterns of obsessive worrying and rumination.
